Guiding Principles and Vision for the Future Assets

The whole point of these assets, as I see it while working on them, is for them to be able to make something like LCARS, or something similar, or even something different. LCARS has style but not true functionality (lots of random numbers, no concept of a distraction-free mode, etc.). I want to add a bit more so apps and games (or even desktop themes) can make usable sci-fi interfaces – ones that could conceivably evolve in a trek-like direcction. But the UI I make for apps and games needs to be available even for commercial ones, so it has to be more than a clone of LCARS…

So, I’m working on some game graphics and font variations and prototyped that will gradually include more and more sci-fi/cyberpunk UX widgets and sprites. This is why I feel that I need to make the initial LCARS parts as a tileset, not vector graphics. Also, I do not feel bound to colors exactly like LCARS in TNG, as these might be used on any sort of background in the future. (Right now, I’m mostly using colors from the CGArne palette. I may make some with official ST:TNG LCARS colors later.)

I may do vector versions of the graphics in the future, as well. Heck, I’m tempted to make a Linux desktop theme or something! Or even a notetaking app that looks like it comes from TNG!

For now, I’m making an Asteroids clone that is vaguely Trek-like in style and some experimental graphics for a trek-like roguelike game.

I keep playing with CC0 fonts as well. More UI/UX controls (which I imagine as a mix of trek-like and Material design) are on my to-do list…

I’m sorry I’m so slow with the progress of this project, but I’m chronically sick. I think it’s coming along, though.
